A guide to making your own festive crackers

We’re getting into the holiday spirit at Lush and Green and hoping to sell plenty of gifts in time for Christmas this year. As a little treat we thought we’d share a little secret with you to save money when buying Christmas crackers, avoid feeble shop bought items this year and make your own fun features, jokes are optional of course!

What you’ll need:
A4 wrapping paper: Pick bright festive colours that’ll look great as crackers.
Glue: Any craft glue will do.
Empty kitchen roll: To cut into sections.
2 pieces of ribbon/string: To tie the crackers with.
A snap: The most important part of the cracker!
Gift for inside: Find something small but useful, you can personalise the crackers for each person if you like.

How to make your crackers

  • Take your piece of wrapping paper and divide it into three sections by scoring gently on the plain side of the paper in a vertical fashion.

  • Cut the kitchen roll into three sections with one section being slightly larger and the other two equal sized but slightly smaller.

  • Stick the snap horizontally across the paper an inch or two from the bottom, a dab of glue on each end should be fine. Place the cut up sections of kitchen roll on the paper, one in each separate section with the large piece in the middle.

  • Grip the bottom of the paper tightly and start to roll away from you until the sections of tube are covered.

  • Glue the seam.

  • Take your ribbon or string and tie them around the cylinder shape at the ends of the middle section. Do one end first, drop the gift down the tube then tie the final section.

  • Decorate the crackers how you like. Create small cardboard snowmen, Santa’s, sprigs of holly or any festive features you want to use and stick them on the crackers for decoration.

  • Lay them out on Christmas Day, place the crackers around the table and show people how creative and clever you are as you hand them one of our pre loved gifts.
