Simple recycling tips for the average household

Our online store is packed with pre-loved and hand-picked products that we know you are going to love. Too many items are wasted when they could go to a loving home and too much waste is created when there really is no need. We’re big into recycling at Lush and Green and wanted to share our top ‘reuse’ ideas to lower the amount of waste your home produces. Please try these ideas and stop throwing items away.

Recycle envelopes: Be careful when you open envelopes, carefully slit along the edges to take the letter out, stick a fresh label on the front and use the envelope to post fresh mail. Or, simply use the envelopes as scrap paper, jot down memos on them instead of buying a stationery pad.

Recycle shopping bags: Shoppers are encouraged to reuse plastic shopping bags to cut down on the amount of waste that goes to landfill. Use ‘freebie’ plastic bags and when you have emptied them at home pop them back into the boot of your car ready to use again. Or slip them inside your waste bin as a liner and recycle them that way.

Clean out glass jars: When you empty jam jars, sauce jars or small relish pots clean them out, remove the labels and use them to store pasta, home-made conserves or odds and ends in the garage. It seems a shame to waste the jars when they have so much life left to give.

Keep cardboard for craft projects: Kids love making things and schools are always asking for cardboard, paper and egg box donations to use on a wide range of projects. Plus it’s handy to have a stockpile of craft accessories at home, they come in useful at the weekend and during school holidays.

There are loads of items you can recycle around the house, we’re always thinking of new things to do with old products at Lush and Green, keep an eye out for some of our other recycling tips in future blogs.
